(AP) -- Michigan's government budget cuts will affect the state Legislature.
Democratic House Speaker Andy Dillon of Wayne County's Redford Township announced Tuesday in a statement that there will be office budget cuts including staff attrition and layoffs. Overall the House is expected to cut about $1.67 million from this year's budget.
Spending allotments will be reduced for House lawmakers. House employees and lawmakers will be required to pay more toward their own health care.
The Senate also is slashing budgets by 4 percent to help the state deal with a budget shortfall that was approaching $1.3 billion this fiscal year. The Senate plans staff furloughs, unpaid workdays or layoffs.
State courts also are moving to cut their budgets.
