FRANKENMUTH, Mich. (AP) - The beer will flow again soon in
Frankenmuth as new owners reopen the Bavarian-themed tourist town's
brewery after a three-year shutdown.
The Frankenmuth Brewery was founded in 1862, heavily damaged in
a 1996 tornado and closed in 2006 after owners couldn't refinance a
$3.9 million loan.
Birmingham-based Steward Capital Management Inc. bought the
brewery in January, and The Saginaw News says the brewery will
restart as soon as July.
Company lawyer Haitem Sarafa says he expects to hire 70 to 80
full- and part-time employees to work at the brewery and its
restaurant, about 75 miles north-northwest of Detroit.
Sarafa says it will make a many as 2,000 barrels of six to seven
types of beer in the first year of operation.
