HERMOSILLO, Mexico (AP) - It's a day of "profound sadness" in

Mexico where the death toll from a fire at a day care center has

risen to 40.

Mexican health officials say two children died in hospitals

today, two days after the blaze.

Funeral processions have filled the streets of the northwestern

city where fire spread from a neighboring tire and car warehouse,

engufling the center Friday. Mexico's president is promising a

thorough investigation into the blaze's cause.

A fire official and witness say crews rushed children from the

burning center through its only exit and through large holes a

civilian knocked into the walls with his pickup before rescue crews

arrived.

Thirty-three remain hospitalized, including 13 who are in

critical condition. One of them is brain dead. Two 3-year-olds are

being treated at a pediatric burn center in Northern California.
