DETROIT (AP) -- Police in the Detroit area are gearing up to manage large crowds as the Red Wings seek their second straight Stanley Cup.
Detroit police did not immediately release plans on controlling crowds downtown and outside Joe Louis Arena Friday night as Detroit takes on the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 7 inside.
In the suburb of Royal Oak, more than 100 officers will be on hand, including mounted units. Lt. Corey O'Donohue says officers will try to keep fans under control and out of the streets.
Roseville Deputy Police Chief James Berlin says extra officers will patrol Gratiot Avenue, which he says is a destination for "spontaneous celebrations."
Peaceful crowds took to the streets last year to celebrate when the Wings won the Cup in six games.
