GENESEE COUNTY -- The following is a message from John Daly, Manager-Director of the Genesee County Road Commission.
Mr. Daly would like to call motorists’ attention to a billboard that has been erected on southbound I-75 between Mt. Morris Road and Pierson Road. The billboard contains a likeness of Dennis Bundy, the Road Commission employee killed by a careless and unlicensed motorist during a routine surveying operation on M-15 three years ago, and a message to motorists to use caution in construction zones. It was erected at the expense of John Richard Quillen, the motorist who hit and killed Bundy, as part of his sentence, following his conviction in the crash. Mr. Quillen was driving on a suspended license at the time of the crash. He pleaded guilty of manslaughter with a motor vehicle.
Mr. Daly noted that the billboard was erected to remind motorists to be extra cautious in construction zones, for the workers, themselves and their families. “If every motorist could experience, just for a moment, the horrific, unending pain and suffering that families must endure following a tragedy like this, they would surely slow down and be more cautious when approaching and driving through construction zones. While it is a momentary inconvenience for motorists to be patient, alert and courteous in these areas, failure to do so can result in lost lives, and lives destroyed, for the workers, the motorists and their families. Please, please be careful in construction zones and in all your driving”.
