NBC 25 is sharing stories all week about Frankenmuth's 4th of July race, the Volkslaufe. And for NBC 25's Dan Armstrong, it's not only a running story, it's a love story, twice over.
Dan says, "The very first Volkslaufe I ran was in 2007. That was a very special one for my wife Amber and I because I remember it was that day after the race we decided we were going to be more than friends. Then, a few months later we got married. So Volkslaufe has a special place in our heart because it's kind of our anniversary of our first seriousness as a couple. The next year after that, of course, baby Ashleigh came along. It was the first race she saw me in even though she probably slept most of the time."
This year's Volkslaufe will be extra special because Amber is participating in her first competitive race.
Amber Armstrong says, "I've been planning on running it, and this year I won't be able to run it. I can walk it." That's because Amber is expecting another little one.
Amber says, "I've been working up toward being able to run and just slowly build up my energy level. I've been able to get to 3 miles, so I'm feeling pretty good about it."
Be sure to join the Armstrongs this Saturday and create your own family memories.
