HYANNIS, Mass. (AP) — Thousands are expected to attend the public wake for Eunice Kennedy Shriver at a Cape Cod church.

The wake is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church — the site of the 1986 wedding of Caroline Kennedy, President Kennedy's daughter, to Edwin Schlossberg. The church is in the Centerville section of Barnstable.

A number of Special Olympics athletes are expected to attend. Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Archdiocese's Cardinal Sean O'Malley also plan to pay their respects.

Shriver, the sister of President John F. Kennedy and Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, died Tuesday at age 88. She founded the Special Olympics and was credited with helping change the way Americans treat the mentally disabled.
