Mich. driver charged in Good Samaritan crash
GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A 44-year-old Ada man who police say was legally drunk when he struck and killed a man who'd stopped to help at the scene of an accident in Kent County has been arraigned.
Paul Douglas Flanagan was charged Wednesday in 63rd District Court with operating while intoxicated causing death, a 15-year felony, and leaving the scene of an at-fault accident resulting in death.
Police say 43-three-year-old Todd Bryant was struck by a sports utility vehicle early Friday in Lowell Township, near Grand Rapids.
Authorities say Flanagan had a blood alcohol level of .269 percent, more than three times the legal limit. A message seeking comment was left with his attorney, Nick Missad.
Flanagan is free on a $5,000 bond pending a Sept. 14 preliminary hearing.
