(AP) -- University of Michigan spokesman Bruce Madej says the school has hired outside counsel to assist its investigation of the football program. Madej declined Tuesday night to say which law firm the school will ask to help it discover and assess the facts following the Detroit Free Press report in which anonymous players said the amount of time they spent on football during the season and in the offseason broke NCAA guidelines.

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said he and his staff know and follow the rules during an emotional news conference Monday.
