(AP) -- The tough economy put a damper on many college students' efforts to land summer work in their fields, so Oakland University decided to step in with an on-campus "internship-style" job program. The Rochester school says 86 undergraduates participated in the program's first year of operation.
The students worked from April to August and earned up to $10 an hour, or a maximum of $7,200.
The university says students worked in information technology, grounds and landscaping, recreation and administrative offices. Management and finance student Tiffany Yarnell says she hopes her experience working in the Student Business Services office helps her find a job after graduation.
