(AP) -- Police are investigating a train-car collision in Macomb County that killed an 86-year-old man and his 82-year-old wife. The crash happened Wednesday evening in Macomb County's Clinton Township, near Mount Clemens and about 20 miles northeast of Detroit.
Police tell The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press that Bernard Schoof of Harrison Township was driving and stopped his car on the track for some reason. They say his wife Francis Schoof was in the passenger seat.
The Canadian National Railway Co. train had 58 cars and two engines and was headed from Detroit to Port Huron. CN says it appears the crossing's warning lights and gates were working properly.
