(AP) -- Growing up isn't getting any easier these days, and one of the hardest steps is starting middle school. Education students at Central Michigan University have been working with entering middle schoolers in Mt. Pleasant to overcome the challenges ahead.

There were no books and pencils but lots of activities at the recent weeklong Transitions Camp. The participants were incoming West Intermediate School seventh-graders. University seniors Sadie Leibfritz of Midland and Brian Miller of Birch Run helped develop the plans for Transitions Camp. Leibfritz says the camp "has been a great chance for the counselors to get experience being a teacher."
