FLINT -- Flint school teachers held an informational picket in front of the Sarvis Center Wednesday afternoon. They want to raise awareness the school district is canceling their contract and changing their medical benefits.
Teachers received a letter Tuesday stating their contracts would be canceled in two weeks. Teachers are still waiting for details on what changes that could bring.
This comes just days after the teachers filed a lawsuit against the district for breaching the contract and imposing a new health insurance plan. The MEA is not yet sure how this injunction may impact any future contract negotiations.
Teachers say they are ready to get back to contract negotiations with the school board, but the board is not cooperating. Calls to school board members for comment were not returned.
Teachers say they plan to picket again next Wednesday outside the administration building. They are inviting any parents who want to show support to join them.
