The Flint Community School District has changed the health insurance plan it offers to Flint teachers.

The district’s teachers will now be covered through HealthPlus of Michigan – PPO.  Teachers were previously covered by MESSA, which is underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

NBC25 compared the insurance plans and noticed no significant changes in the two.

Teachers can enroll today and Thursday from 2-5 p.m. at the Sarvis Center.

The school district is facing an operating deficit of $15-20 million for the 2009-2010 school year, prompting the change.

Benefit changes take effect Nov. 1.
