(AP) -- YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Eastern Michigan University has broken ground for a new $3.9 million multipurpose indoor sports practice facility for use by its teams and the community. It's near the northeast corner of the Eagles' football venue, Rynearson Stadium.
Officials held a ceremony marking the start of the project Tuesday. The air-supported structure will be 410 feet long, 210 feet wide and 75 feet tall.
It will have a 1,000-square-foot welcome center and 86,000 square feet of convertible space usable as a football field, international soccer field or four youth soccer fields.
The Ypsilanti school's regents approved the project in June. Completion is expected by spring 2010.
