FLINT -- Amtrak's Blue Water Train service has turned 35 years old.
The passenger train service celebrated Wednesday by taking a special bi-level train trip across the state making stops in Flint going across Michigan and into Chicago.
Amtrak says its Flint station plays a vital role in its success.
"There are people checking in who are going as far south as Illinois and going all the way to the west coast and they can begin those trips right here in Flint at our station," said Marc Magliar, Amtrack
Amtrak began in 1974 and Flint was one of its first stations and has continued to be a successful mode of transportation to take people across the state and to Chicago.
