One simple text message could cost you your life.

That's why Michigan is among a growing number of states considering a crackdown on motorists who text message while driving.

Thursday a state house committee approved a bill that would ban the practice except to report accidents, crimes or emergencies.

The legislation would make texting a secondary offense, meaning police would need some other reason to first pull over motorists.
