MIDLAND -- Healthcare reform was the hot topic Tuesday night at Northwood University in Midland with guest speaker, national author Michael Tanner.
Hundreds of people turned out to hear Tanner give his take on the issues concerning healthcare reform.
Tanner, a Senior Fellow at the Cato institute, says he doesn't believe President Barack Obama's plan will get passed in it's current form because the public option does not create competition, but a government monopoly.
"If we really want competition why don't we open up the insurance industry to interstate competition. Why not allow people to buy insurance in Ohio, indiana, Wisconsin or for that matter go online to Esurance? Why should we keep an insurance cartel or monopoly laws here in the state," said Tanner.
Meanwhile supporters of health care reform say it would keep the health care companies honest.
Tanner has written four books and has appeared on numerous national talk shows.
