Veterans Day was celebrated across Mid-Michigan Wednesday.
In Midland, a wreath laying ceremony honored soldiers, both past and present, who fought for America’s freedom. On the steps of City Hall, residents gathered to honor those who fought, and especially those who gave their life in service to their country.
In Clio, a parade was held to celebrate the accomplishments of those who earned America’s freedom. As a flags were raised and a wreath was laid, tears fell as residents thanked the veterans for their service. Clarence Pridemore, a veteran who served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield, says he is thankful for the men who are serving today. While he feels the soldiers should be brought home, he says these current soldiers should be honored and respected just as the veterans are honored today.
Moving to Flint, new flags were raised this Veteran Day. In a ceremony hosted by the NJROTC unit from Flint Northwestern High School, the former tattered flags were lowered as new ones were raised. Commander Michael Robinson, a Flint resident, says this is, “a symbol of pride.” Commander Robinson says it is important to have a sharp, clean first impression, and these new flags show patriotism and welcome future businesses and residents to the city.
