FRANKENMUTH -- Nestled deep along downtown Frankenmuth, among the chocolate shops and tourist hotspots lies the Frankenmuth Historical Museum.
It's a place where you can take a step back in time.
Seven galleries show the development of the City of Frankemuth and the changes and struggles the ealy settlers dealth with.
"We try to portray every experience from the journey over on the ship and the development of the colonies in 1845 up through what you see today," said Frankenmuth Museum Director Jonathon Webb.
Dozens of volunteers and historians work behind the scenes to make everything look authentic.
"It's like a giant puzzle and and you get all these tiny bits and pieces, " said historian Mary Nuechterlein.
"A lot of the galleries are set up to take people back into the actual time and place where they can experience history through a first hand experience," said Webb.
The museum tries to be so exact, they used direct descendants of the original settlers to model the many of the museum's statues. There are also interactive displays to help people to understand what it was like to live in the area in the mid-1800's.
"It's the brain child of a lot of different people over the years." said Webb.
It's a project that not only keeps tourist coming back but volunteers too.
"I said I'll work for a year or two and then 20 years later I'm still greeting people," said volunteer Mary Tessin.
"As long as Frankenmuth is here we hope to continue to keep people updated on the history of Frankemuth," said Webb.
