BIRCH RUN -- There were a few stores open on Thanksgiving Day to serve those looking for last minute items for the big feast.  NBC25 talked with shoppers at Meijer in Birch Run and found the parking lot to be quite full.

“I got the turkey, just needed to get some marsh mellows for the yams and milk, stuff like that,” said Shane Stewart who is having Thanksgiving dinner at his house for the first time.  He said he was not surprised to see so many last minute shoppers.

“People, if they are anything like me, they are procrastinators,” he said.

Others like Ryan McReynolds wanted to beat the post-holiday rush knowing “Friday is going to be more like a zoo,” he said. Even if last minute shopping is a must, most we talked with say it’s always worth it.

Helen Keschner of Birch Run said her favorite part of the meal is “sitting back and (getting to) relax.”
