The Swartz Creek Veteran's Memorial site is one step closer to getting another military monument.
On Friday a chili fundraiser dinner was held at the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church.
The cooks dressed in red Santa hats and started out preparing the chili meal early Friday morning. Late this afternoon dozens of people including veterans turned out to show support.
Organizers say this year they are stewing up plans to build a monument honoring service men and women in the marines. "We think that's an important thing. A dedication to our young men and women who are in the armed forces and stationed everywhere," says Barbara Johnson, Chairmen of the Women's Club.
The money raised from Friday night's dinner will go towards building a new monument at the Swartz Creek Veterans' Memorial on Miller Road.
Last years chili dinner raised enough cash to build a memorial for Air Force men and women. This year's monument will honor service men and women in the marines.
No word yet on the date the Marine Memorial will go up.
