Arianna Travis is fighting the fight for many people in need of a life saving bone marrow transplant, by trying to get as many people as she can to join the donor program.
The community came together Saturday to save the life of a junior at Grand Blanc High school. She's 1 of 6,000 in need of a bone marrow transplant.
15-year-old Arianna lived like any other teenagers until February 2008. That's when doctors diagnosed her with Hodgkins Lymphoma.
"I have just relapsed from my own ontology transplant, so for me this is kind of the last resort," says Arianna.
Arianna's mom says her daughter's strong determination gets her through these tough times.
"It's hard to watch your child be sick and to watch the hospitalization. But she's really strong and she keeps fighting and she said from the very beginning that she will not let this cancer beat her," says Staci Hines.
Arianna already suffered through six rounds of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Now doctors say she needs a possibly life saving bone marrow transplant.
Her story is inspiring many to sign up for the National Bone Marrow Registry at Grand Blanc High School. "I have a 5-year-old and a 1-year-old and they were playing on the floor and I just thought, if this was one of them I'd want people to get off the couch and come down and get themselves tested."
The testing is easy and can be done by simply swabbing your mouth. Arianna is out on a mission to register as many people as possible. You may be the one to save a life.
"It's not just for me it's for the thousands of other people who need a bone transplant as well," Arianna says.
To register you need to be between the ages of 18-years-old to 80- years-old. You also must be willing to donate to any patient in need.
