In coordination with the Michigan Department of Community Health and all local health departments in Michigan, the Genesee County Health Department is lifting restrictions on who may receive the vaccine for the novel H1N1 flu effective Monday, Dec. 14. The lifting of restrictions applies to all outlets for the vaccine, including the Heath Department, school-located clinics, health care providers, pharmacies, etc.
The novel H1N1 flu pandemic is not over and the Genesee County Health Department strongly encourages everyone to get vaccinated against the novel H1N1 flu. Surveillance and testing have shown that the vast majority of flu cases in the U.S. since Sept. 1 have been caused by the novel H1N1 strain. Vaccination is the best way to prevent getting the flu.
People seeking the vaccine have several options. The vaccine is offered during regular business hours at the Genesee County Health Department's Burton Branch. There are two upcoming public school-located clinics operated by McLaren Visiting Nurse and Hospice and sponsored by the Genesee Intermediate School District. These clinics are open to all county residents regardless whether they live in the particular school district.
