(AP) -- MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - Central Michigan University's planned medical school has an affiliation deal with a hospital in Mount Pleasant. The agreement provides for clinical experiences for first- and second-year students at Central Michigan Community Hospital. It's also expected to lead to internships and residencies.

Central Michigan's trustees say they'll break ground in February for a $24 million building to house the school. It's expected to open in early 2012.

In August, the university applied to the Liaison Committee on Medical Education for accreditation. Oakland and Western Michigan universities also plan new medical schools. There now are medical schools at Wayne and Michigan State universities and the University of Michigan.
