LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Twenty-eight Michigan State Police troopers laid off almost six months ago are being called back to work, thanks to an infusion of federal stimulus money.

State police say in a statement Friday that the troopers will be recalled Jan. 11 and will return to their previous work sites.

About of 100 troopers were laid off June 28 as the state struggled to balance its budget. Days earlier, members of the Michigan State Police Troopers Association voted against a furlough plan that would have temporarily cut their pay to avoid layoffs of low seniority workers.

Under the state's new 2009-2010 budget, 55 of them were called back to work Nov. 16. Fifteen troopers remain on layoff.

The recalls will bring the number of troopers to 1,026.
