FLINT -- The outlook on the job market for Fint native Brandon Wright looks dim. He joins the ranks of others looking for work.
"Even before the economy went down hill it was kind of hard to find a job in Michigan” said Wright.
The state unemployment reports that 14.7% of people are out of work. In the City of Flint about 25% of people are searching for jobs.
While these numbers are alarming, Craig Coney with Michigan Works said the reality is numbers are even higher.
“No those numbers are only the numbers that are calculated by the available work force, the number of employed vs. the unemployed, “said Mr. Coney.
Reported unemployment numbers don't include the thousands of Michigan residents whose unemployment has run out but are still searching for jobs.
“It’s real hard to get a job now days, so if you got one hold on to it,” said Wright.
Even the holiday jobs are not very promising for job-seekers. “In the past this would be the time people would hire for temporary positions but that's gone, that's not available now,” Wright said.
But Coney said while unemployment remains high, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. “The good news is that the unemployment rate is going down. In the state, Genesee Shiawassee, and the City of Flint from September to October so that's good,” said Coney.
