(AP) -- DETROIT (AP) - An annual, outdoor winter celebration in downtown Detroit is returning to its Motown roots. The Motown Winter Blast is Feb. 12-14 at Campus Martius (MAR'-shus). "Motown" also has been returned to its title. The record label celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.
Organizers say about 60 local bands will perform more than 200 Motown songs. A voluntary admission fee of a nonperishable food item, new clothing item or a book is requested. The first Winter Blast was held in 2005. Organizers say about 75,000 people attended the 2009 event, which was scaled back due to Detroit's troubled economy.
When the Winter Blast coincided with the Super Bowl at Ford Field in 2006, the event attracted an estimated 1.2 million people.
