CLIO -- The start of the New Year is when many resolutions are made and a popular one is to live healthier.

But like most resolutions, they usually go into one year and out the other.-

The promise to be healthy and drop some of those extra pounds tops the New Year's resolution list for many, but it's often quickly forgotten.

"It's the time of year to make that resolution and to keep that commitment, but the point is you have to keep it," said Grasso.  "If you make the commitment in January you have to work the entire year long you just can't give up," said Grasso.

Kara Grasso, the owner of Snap Fitness in Clio, says there are some easy techniques that will help you reach your weight-loss goal.

"I think we should do about 3 sets of 10 but let's take a break," Grasso said during a work out.

Doing cardio is an important component, but a healthy diet is also the key.

"To keep the calories off you have to have a great nutritional plan; and you can't eat any thing you want over the holidays you have to be a little bit careful," said Grasso.

While losing weight can be hard it's not impossible.  Susan Ferguson says it took determination for her to keep last year's resolution; she says she accomplished that goal while holding down two jobs.

"I made a commitment of what would work for me and I made a commitment that this is not a weight loss plan but a lifestyle change," said Ferguson.

The first day of the New Year gives many a new lease on life.  But it's important to make realistic resolutions so that you make promises that you actually keep.

"You have to want to do it; they have to want to keep a goal of losing weight and only do it for themselves," Ferguson said.
