The Northeastern Michigan Wrestling Association, also known as NEMWA, kicked off its season Saturday at the Midland Community Center.

Saturday's event featured more than 400 wrestlers from 30-teams.

President of NEMWA, Jeremy Sampson, says "Our first official tournament starts next week, but we wanted to do something special to get our league off on the right foot."

Participants come from all over the state, including the Grand Rapids area and St. Ignace.

The majority come from the Tri-Cities and northward.
