Two men are being detained by U.S. Border Patrol officials for illegally crossing the state border, according to the Huron County Sheriff's Office.

The two men, from Mexico, were discovered by deputy officials shortly after their involvement in an automobile accident in Dwight Township in Huron County. The drivers attempted to pass a moving vehicle on Stoddard Road when they lost control of their Chevrolet TrailBlazer, sideswiped the other vehicle and crashed into a ditch.

Deputy Bismack and Sergeant Hunt were investigating the accident when they determined the two men were in possession of phony state identification cards -- one perpetrating the state of Michigan, the other from the state of Indiana. After discovering the counterfeits possessed no record in the LEIN system, the U.S. Border Patrol was contacted immediately. The men were then picked up by US Border Patrol officials and then transported for further proceedings.

The incident is still undergoing investigation. No one involved in the accident was injured.
