BAY CITY -- School districts across the state are beginning to review the state’s Race to the Top legislation.
Today, the Bay City School Board began reviewing the competition.
School officials say that while the money is much needed, they are concerned this grant hasn't been analyzed enough and leaves out a lot of details on how it will help the state's youth.
Doug Newcombe, Bay City interim Superintendent, says, "it's coming down way too fast. There really hasn't been… a lot of dialogue in making the changes that are being made, and there's nothing that indicates that these changes are going to do anything to improve student achievement. It's being done primarily to help achieve obtaining a grant."
The Bay City School Board signed off on the Race to the Top memorandum today so that if the state does receive the $500 million grant, the district will be able to get some of the money. However, the school board says they are continuing to review the details and are still able to pull out if they feel this legislation will not help their students.
