FARWELL -- Two teens are recovering after their car was hit by a train.

The Clare County Sheriff’s department reports around 2:41 pm Thursday, a Chevy Malibu containing Zachary and Jacob Kelly was struck by a train on Old State Rd. in the Village of Farwell.

Witness reports say the Malibu came to a stop prior to the tracks, didn’t look either way, and then drove in front of the train.  Witnesses also stated that the train was blowing its horn several times while approaching the intersection.

Jacob, the passenger, was not wearing a seatbelt.  He was transported to the Clare ER and then transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw where he was listed in Critical, but stable condition.

Zachary was taken to the Clare ER and later released.

Nether alcohol nor speed is believed to be a factor in the crash; the incident remains under investigation.
