(AP) -- Ford Motor Co. is moving to further consolidate much of its electric vehicle program in Michigan.
The automaker would create 1,000 jobs in southeast Michigan related to advanced lithium ion battery production, moving some of the work from Mexico, according to details in a tax incentive agreement approved Monday by a state economic development board.
Thousands of other jobs would be retained through other work related to electric vehicles.
The tax credits approved Monday by the Michigan Economic Growth Authority would expand a program approved by the state board last year.
Ford is expected to announce further details of the project at the Detroit auto show on Monday afternoon.
