LANSING (AP) -- Some members of the State Board of Education aren't yet ready to formally endorse Michigan's bid to win more federal schools money through the Obama administration's Race to the Top competition.
Democratic board President Kathleen Straus says Tuesday she doesn't want to sign the plan until she gets a chance to read the full application, which won't be finished until this weekend. Only a summary of the plan was available Tuesday.
The state's application for Race to the Top funds is due Jan. 19. Michigan could win up to $400 million if selected as a winner.
Teachers unions have been hesitant to endorse the application until they see more details.
But several Republican and Democratic members of the state education board say they support the plan.
