(AP) -- WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Police say a Kmart employee trying to stop a shoplifting suspect died after being dragged across the store parking lot. Waterford Township police say two people were arrested in Pontiac following the Thursday afternoon incident in the community 25 miles northwest of Detroit. They were jailed while police prepared to seek charges from Oakland County prosecutors.

Sgt. Scott Good says the victim, a 36-year-old loss prevention specialist, was trying to apprehend a 39-year-old Pontiac man suspected of stealing $400 in merchandise. Good says the two struggled as the suspect tried to enter a sport utility vehicle waiting outside the store. He says the SUV driven by a 20-year-old woman dragged the victim several hundred feet before he became separated from the vehicle. He died at an area hospital.
