(AP) -- GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A migrant worker is jailed without bond after police say he fatally shot the west Michigan fruit farmer who had laid him off.
Kent County Sheriff's Department records show 57-year-old Socorro Hurtado-Garcia approached deputies Friday night and told them he had shot 50-year-old Edward Rasch once in the chest. Deputies found Rasch's body inside the work camp trailer where Hurtado-Garcia continued living after being let go from work in December.
Hurtado-Garcia, a Mexican native living legally in the U.S., was being held without bond in the Kent County Jail following his arraignment on one count each of open murder and using a firearm in commission of a felony. He faces life in prison if convicted as charged.
Jail records didn't indicate whether he had an attorney.
