(AP) -- DETROIT - A 27-year-old man who was arrested after authorities say he walked through a passenger screening checkpoint at Detroit Metropolitan Airport without a boarding pass and refused to obey security officers has been ordered detained. The man identified in a criminal complaint as Kaylan L. Policherla appeared briefly Tuesday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Detroit. He is charged with violating federal security requirements, a one-year misdemeanor.
Policherla didn't respond to Magistrate Judge Mark Randon when asked his name and other questions. A hearing on whether he'll remain in custody was set for Thursday.
A portion of the terminal in Romulus was evacuated Monday. Randon granted federal defender Dave Tholen's request for a mental health evaluation of Policherla.
