NBC25 has brought viewers several made in Michigan products.
Earlier this week, NBC25 brought you the asphalt recycler in North Branch and Michigan Brand Meats in Bay City.
Today, NBC25 brings you the Great Lakes Ice Cream Company in Midland.
Owner Scot Pirie says his idea to start an ice cream company was simply filling a need.
He says, "I've got four kids and we went throughout the Tri-Cities looking for places to take the kids, and we couldn't find any place that had atmosphere. The 1 or 2 that had atmosphere didn't have good ice cream."
So he bought a building, ice cream machines, and went to work.
He wanted his company to be genuinely Michigan. If you look carefully at the logo, you can see the state of Michigan complete with the Upper Peninsula inside.
The flavors are Michigan as well. Pirie says "Our top selling ice cream is called Pictured Rocks. It's got brownie pieces, cookie dough pieces, brownie fudge, and fudge swirl."
Other flavors include Copper Country, named after the Upper Peninsula's Keweenaw Peninsula.
Pirie says, "We have chosen to manufacture product here in our store because of the quality we can get out of it."
Great Lakes Ice Cream sells wholesale to several outlets around Michigan.
The retail store opens to the public March 1st.
