(AP) -- Police say a snowmobile rider was killed after hitting a cable that was pulling a car across ice on the Belle River near Marine City. Detective Sgt. Brad Kolcz says the car had jumped a seawall and landed on the frozen river late Wednesday morning. He says a tow truck had attached a cable to the car and was drawing it to shore when the snowmobiler, riding southbound on the ice, struck the cable.
The name of the victim, who was in his early 20s, wasn't immediately released. Kolcz says three flares had been placed on either side of the cable.
State Department of Natural Resources records indicate the man was at least the 15th person to die in a snowmobile accident so far this season in Michigan.
