(AP) -- DETROIT - President Barack Obama is scheduled to deliver the spring commencement at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
The university says in a statement Thursday that Obama also will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. The May 1 ceremony starts at 10 a.m. in Michigan Stadium. Degrees will be awarded to about 3,500 undergraduate students.
University president Mary Sue Coleman says Obama has "captured the imagination and enthusiasm of many students with his inspiring words of hope and change."
The university says Obama will be the fourth sitting president to visit the Ann Arbor campus. Former President George H.W. Bush made the trip in May 1991.
Former President Bill Clinton delivered the spring commencement speech in 2007.
