MIDLAND -- Valentine’s Day isn't just for couples. The Humane Society of Midland County and Northwood University say one of the best ways to avoid being lonely is to get a pet.
The two organizations are encouraging people to adopt pets instead of buying chocolates and flowers this year.
Candice Courtemanche from Northwood University says, "this is a great cause, I mean animals are great. They give you love and they don't talk back and they're always there for you." She states, "they've done plenty of studies that show the positive impacts that animals have on human's lives. It's incredible."
Whether it’s a fuzzy kitten, a fun-filled puppy, or some other type of domestic animal, the Candice says they are all in need of good homes. “All of them are loving, and they seriously fill a void in your heart. You don't really realize it until you adopt one," she stated.
In order to help out the humane society, several students from Northwood University are fostering pets in their dorms. They say they're doing their part to find good homes for animals in need.
