(AP) -- Michigan State is going a different shade of green. The Lansing State Journal reports the Board of Trustees at the East Lansing school on Friday officially replaced the green that's been used by the Spartans since 1997 with a new, darker shade of green.
The new shade is supposed to be more consistent with the school's pre-1997 green. The change will ultimately be reflected in everything from campus signs to the logo on the floor of the Breslin Center.
The change to the new shade will be gradual, since the school doesn't plan a massive repainting campaign. Heather Swain, assistant vice president for university relations, says the change began as a discussion in the athletics department, which is partnering with Nike on a new unified look for sports teams.
