FLINT TOWNSHIP -- Business is booming for the newly opened Salvation Army store.
"We had over 8,000 people both days combined, and it just exceeded all of our wildest imagination, it was a tremendous day," said Major Jim Wilson.
Now located on Corunna Road in Flint Township, the store caters to people looking to get the most bang for their buck.
"I am convinced that that is one of the things with our economy you have to go were the dollars stretches the most, our average price is $2.09,” Wilson said.
Shopper Jan Wendling said she’s taking advantage of those deals. I’m looking for a fridge and I’m waiting for the trucks, and that's how bad I want a fridge,” said Wendling.
The Salvation Army told NBC25 News, the store was already stocked with over 190,000 items.
From trinkets to appliances; names like Gateway, Sony and Philips; but one of the hottest items on the shelves was women’s apparel.
"We have a lot of furniture being sold, and also we couldn't hardly seem to keep women's shoes in stock, I’m not sure about that,” said Wilson.
"I’ve already got stuff from here Friday, I bought some shoes brand new, and I only paid like $3 dollars for them," said Wendling.
By the end of the day, little fashionista Donna Bothell found an incentive for cashing in on deals.
"If you buy a lot of stuff, you can get a lot of blue tickets, you can turn them in and get keys, and if that key opens the treasure chest you can get to get a
TV,DVD player, printer or something," said Bothell.
Organizers said 95% of the money shoppers spend in the store goes towards the Salvation Army's substance abuse program.
The store opens from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and close on Sundays.
