(AP) -- Voting has begun in a contest from the Detroit Institute of Arts and the organizer of a public outreach effort called Let's Save Michigan aimed at offering the economically battered state a little inspiration. Judges selected 60 finalists from more than 300 poster entries. The idea was to create posters in the fashion of Works Progress Administration artwork of the Great Depression to highlight turnaround efforts and rally Michigan residents.
Michigan has had the nation's highest unemployment rate for much of the past four years. The public picks the winners in voting that opened this week on the Let's Save Michigan Web site. Voting closes March 15. Winners will be announced March 16. There's a $1,000 top prize and the runner-up gets $250.
