DAVISON -- It was on a bus ride to school Wednesday morning where two students got wind of a “hit list”, mentioning about 70 names of students and staff. It was ripped up by the time administrators got to it, but they pieced it back together, and started investigating.
Davison Township Police told NBC25 the threat was not specific in terms of exact harm that could come to those mentioned, but was enough to cause alarm.
“It was serious enough,” said Deputy Police Chief Rick Freeman. “It was more than just a list of names,” he said, calling it a list of “targets.”
”It led us to believe that the young people put at least some thought into this,” he added.
Two freshmen boys, ages 14 and 15 were lodged at the Regional Detention Center after being charged with a felony: threatening to commit an act of terrorism. District officials said in a letter posted online that the students were taken out of school by police and have been removed from classes, at least for the time being. A hearing was held Thursday afternoon.
“We’re still under investigation as to how serious those young folks took this list, and how serious they intended to take those actions,” Freeman said.
School administrators notified parents of students mentioned on the list, as well as staff members as to what happened, and how the investigation is being handled. A notice has also been sent out to the Davison community through a listserv that reaches about 4,000 people. There are about 1650 students that attend Davison High School.
