(AP) -- Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard says Michigan should require a two-thirds vote in the Legislature to raise taxes. The Republican gubernatorial candidate also said Monday a two-thirds vote should be needed in both the House and Senate to raise total state spending each year more than private-sector spending.

He says if it takes a two-thirds vote to reject a state worker pay increase, it should take more than a majority vote to raise taxes. Bouchard unveiled these ideas and others at Duperon Corp. in Saginaw.

Other Republicans running for governor are Attorney General Mike Cox, U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, Ann Arbor venture capitalist Rick Snyder and state Sen. Tom George.

Three Democrats also are in the race.
