HURON CO. --
The Village of Port Hope has donated a 1983 Chevrolet C-60 Fire Rescue Truck to our the Huron County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff reports the department had learned of it being for sale about 2 weeks ago and had looked to see if it could replace the current Emergency Response Vehicle. It was decided that it would need modifications, so they declined further purchase negotiations.
On 3/09/10, Mayor/Fire Chief Gary Schave stated he was willing to donate the unit to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office.
Apparently the Village purchased this truck in 2004 from Manchester Pennsylvania for a price of $24,000. The truck had roughly 13,000 miles on it at that time. Earlier this year, the village purchased a new rescue truck and retired the 1983 Chevrolet truck at the end of February. They originally considered asking $5,000 for the truck that now only has less than 16,000 miles on it.
The Huron County Sheriff's office is considering converting it into a crime scene investigative unit, although those plans are not definite.
The truck has been moved to Bad Axe and over the next couple of weeks, ideas and suggestions will determine what we do with it.
