Forty culinary arts teams from high schools across Michigan faced off in a cook off at the Michigan Restaurant Association’s Michigan ProStart Student Competition.

It took place Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth.

“We’ve taken something that is plain food, and turned it into something excellent,” says Saginaw Career Complex student Nathan Keysor. “That is rewarding.”

His school sent three teams.

While some teams competed in sanitation, technique, and taste, others competed in restaurant management.

Organizers say it’s a great way for students to get real life experience, and even win scholarships.

Other area schools participating include Boyne City High School, Clare-Gladwin RESD, Genesee Area Skill Center,  and Iosco RESA.
