(AP) -- A Dearborn Heights man is jailed on attempted murder charges after authorities say he ran over a Wayne County sheriff's corporal with the officer's car. Sheriff Benny Napoleon says 32-year-old Jeffery L. Jones is charged with 12 felonies, including assault with intent to murder and carjacking.

Napoleon says Cpl. Christopher Carlson was hospitalized Tuesday in stable condition with a broken leg and ribs, and lung injuries. Napoleon says Carlson stopped Jones for speeding Sunday and was approaching his car when Jones fled on foot. The sheriff says Jones doubled back, jumped in Carlson's vehicle and ran him over twice.

Deputy Rachal Davis pulled her injured colleague to safety. The suspect crashed and was arrested.
